Devidas Kadam, Goa has bagged the Smt Vimala V Pai Vishwa Konkani Sahitya Puraskar-2019 for Konkani novel ‘Jaanvay’ authored by him. Kadam has Kendra Sahitya Akademy Award to his credit too for his Konkani novel ‘Dika’ also, according to a press note issued here.
The Konkani Kavita Kruti Puraskar has gone to “Thode Ekant’, a collection of Konkani poems by Shakuntala R Kini, Mangaluru. Kini is the winner of 8 Gold Medals from Mysuru University in Kannada MA. She has translated Konkani poems of Bakibab Borkar into Kannada and also translated Kannada drama ‘Swapna Saraswat’ to Konkani. She has translated 45 ‘kirtanas’ of great Kannada saint Kavi Kanakadasa into Konkani under Kanakadasa Sahitya translation project of Kanakadasa Adhyayana and Research Centre, Bangaluru.
Meanwhile, Rocky V Miranda, Mysuru has bagged the Smt Vimala V Pai Vishwa Konkani Jeevan Sidhi Puraskar. Miranda has published several papers on language change, linguistic reonstruction and South Asian Linguistics.
Following are the winners of Basti Vaman Shenoy Vishwa Konkani Life time Service Awards-2019:
Male category: K Raghavendra Pai, Mysuru. Pai is an internationally acclaimed Yoga exponent. He has toured many states in India and foreign countries to conduct Yoga training classes as well to propagate Yoga Science.
Women’s category: Meera Srinivas Shanbhag, Kumta for her services to mankind, through scholarships to students, building classrooms, open air theatre, Gold age homes for senior citizens etc. She is Founder President of Shrinivas Charitable Trust, Kumta.
Each award carries a purse of Rs one lakh in cash, citation, memento, shawl and sriphal. The award ceremony will be held on November 23 at TV Raman Pai Convention Hall, Mangaluru.
The awards were announced by the Jury Committee which met at World Konkani Centre, Shaktinagar.
This year, TV Mohandas Pai has sponsored two special awards in his mother’s name - Smt Vimala V Pai Vishwa Konkani Special Awards - for two eminent personalities: Vasanthi R Nayak, Mangaluru and Suhas Yashawanth Dalal, Goa who has written articles in Konkani and English from Goa Freedom Movement days.
