Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday stated that he had to scrap the currency notes of Rs 500 and Rs 1000 denominations to render justice to the honest and punish the dishonest and corrupt in the nation.
He has also stated that by cleaning up the nation of corruption, he is looking forward for the transition towards a cashless society.
He was addressing a public rally at a centenary celebrations function of the KLE Society here.
Prime Minister Modi criticised the opposition for creating confusion among the people regarding the demonetization step he had to initiate.
“I had earlier issued timely warnings in this direction by initiating small steps like opening of ‘Jan Dhan’ accounts and pressing for more cashless transactions, hence the opposition cannot blame me for sudden demonetisation of the bigger currencies,” Modi said urging people not to panic as they have sufficient time to deposit their hard earned money in the banks till December 30.
“Did we questioned the Congress party when they had demonetised the 25 paisa coin out of the currency a few years ago? Then how can they ask us when we are compelled to initiate stringent measures to weed out corruption and expose the hoarders of black money?” he questioned and warned to initiate more rigorous measures after December 30 in this direction.
