Prime Minister Narendra Modi has stated that he would like to set aside more funds and give more liberties to public and private universities which can excel at the global level and stand among first 100 universities in the world.
He also stated that the government would support those universities which can produce world class sports persons and athletes with the aim of getting more medals to the nation in the 2020 Olympics to be held in Tokyo.
He was addressing a public rally in Belagavi on the occasion of the centenary celebrations of the KLE Society here.
“Certainly, every year when we see the global ranking of the universities, I am embarrassed to see none of the Indian universities making it to the first 100. As the Prime Minister of the nation I ask you to be among the top 100 universities.”
“Hence, we have decided to extend required financial assistance and liberate those universities, from government red tapism, which are rare and can make it to be among the first 100,” Modi said.
He also lauded the role played by KLE Society that has been instrumental in transforming the lives of millions across the nation by way of imparting education since its inception about 100 years ago.
“Dr Prabhakar Kore and team have undauntedly and selflessly carried out the task of spreading the good work of its founding fathers whose sacrifice have turned into blessings for the next generations,” Prime Minister Modi said adding that be it India or the world, KLE Society has thousands of alumni who are spread across the globe.
