THE DIGILOCKER+
* The new DigiLocker system will not only assist the driver but it also will prove beneficial for the government

* To create an account: valid Aadhar card as well as a cell phone number which will be linked with the user account
* Essential documents can be reserved in the secured DigiLocker setup and can be demonstrated to the traffic police
* In order to verify the same, the officials will also be provided with an app based setup which will verify such documents

The Central government is working on a new system that will help drivers around the country to keep a soft copy of their driving license handy instead of carrying the smart cards or older license or registration books. The new system, called 'DigiLocker+' will be launched in the next few days by the transport and IT ministries. To open an account, you will need an Aadhaar card and a cell phone number that can be linked up to the account.
The new service will help the government maintain a centralised registry of vehicles that can be accessed from anywhere in the country. The documents can be kept in the secured DigiLocker setup and can be verified by the traffic police and other law enforcement agencies as and when there is a check-post. This will also make it easier for Police forces to issue a fine to drivers or apply penalty points to their driving licenses when found breaking the law.
The DigiLocker system will have an app that will display all the information that the individual has on a smartphone. The officials will also have an app based setup that will be able to verify these documents from a national registry. The DigiLocker setup will be particularly helpful for Telangana and Delhi government as they have already started to issue e-challans to violating motorists.
Although this will be a good move towards maintaining a national record of automobiles and having a centralised system towards catching violators, it will be interesting to see how police officials in various parts of the country will react to such technology. Most of the time, when drivers are caught violating a law, they get away with a minor infraction and a bribe and this DiGiLocker setup could actually curb down heavily on those practices.
This new system from Indian Government is an excellent step for maintaining a nationwide record of automobile along with centralised system for clutching the violators. However, it will be appealing to watch how constabulary forces in the country react to this technology. As majority of the time, the violators get away by paying a bribe but this new DiGiLocker setup system might be an effective for controlling such practices.
