In villages around Ponda residents are accustomed of throwing their household garbage and other unwanted material into the nullahs. Such a practice proves unhygienic for locals and travellers proceeding along the main road. The village panchayat of Queula has already secured a vehicle for collecting garbage at its jurisdiction. Still we come across scenes of scattered plastic bags at different spots. The nullah near Saraswati High School has remained neglected for long. The one adjacent to the lake of Shree Kapileshwar temple at Kapileshwari is also filled with rubbish. Even at Adpai and Durbhat, the nullahs remain uncleared for long. Only during the month of June or July, the task of clearing drains and nullahs is undertaken in the name of pre-monsoon works. But even then this task is not carried out satisfactorily. No doubt, the objective of Swachh Bharat Abhiyan must be attained at all costs.
