In 2011, banks asked their customers to make their accounts KYC compliant by the given deadline or face freezing of accounts. Again, under government directive, people are asked to link their bank accounts and mobiles with Aadhaar by Dec 31 and Feb 6 respectively. There are also deadlines called ‘due dates' for filing income tax returns, paying telephone bills, electricity bills, etc.
Government always sets deadlines to the citizens for compliance failing which the facility is barred or penalty is imposed in the form of delayed charges. But what about a deadline or due date for giving service to the citizens? When your telephone is out of order, there is no time limit to fix it. When you apply for partition or conversion sanad or any service there is no deadline to complete your work. People often complain that they don't get service on time although they pay for it. If citizens delay, there is fine (penalty). If government delays, it is fine (as in fine whether)?
Government should consider laying down time limit for its departments for providing each type of service to the people. After all, time is the essence of good governance and efficient administration.
