Spent force

The Congress party has gone into silent mode ever since the BJP took control of the state reins. While GPCC chief Luizinho Faleiro has not been very vocal in taking on the government, CLP leader Babu Kavlekar also seems to have gone into hibernation after an occasional outburst against former colleague Vishwajit Rane. AICC secretary Girish Chodankar has been instrumental in taking potshots from time to time, but none of these have been taken seriously by the ruling dispensation. However, the man of the moment for the Congress has been Curtorim MLA Reginaldo Lourenco. He has been fighting a dual battle. Reginaldo has taken enough shots at his party leadership, pressing for an urgent change. In a recent meeting with the High Command in Delhi, Reginaldo was successful in putting across the serious differences with his State party leaders. However, the Curtorim MLA is virtually fighting a lone battle against the likes of Manohar Parrikar and Sudin Dhavalikar. He may have strongly put across that beef ban cannot be accepted in Goa, while also exposing the anti-minority stance in Gujarat. But the lone voice doesn’t sound strong enough against the backdrop of the Congress party which has fallen apart as a formidable opposition. The party needs unity and has to be relentless if they have to seriously take on the government.
