A team of Panaji Police on Wednesday left for Chandigarh in Punjab as a part of the ongoing investigation in the counterfeit currency case.

It may be recalled that Panaji police on September 14 had arrested five accused in a raid at a Calangute-based hotel and had seized counterfeit currency notes to the tune of Rs 2,96,400.

Highly placed sources from the police department have disclosed that the Panaji police team is scheduled to visit certain places in Punjab and Rajasthan as per the information revealed by the five accused during their interrogation.

Meanwhile, it has also been learnt that a team from the National Investigation Agency (NIA) is expected to arrive in Goa as a part of the protocol. The NIA team will interrogate the accused to verify if they are linked with Pakistan-based terror groups and ISI. It is believed that these organisations are attempting to introduce counterfeit currency in Indian markets through individual operatives as a part of their alleged conspiracy to weaken the Indian economy.
