The Goan Community Aberdeen (GCA) organised its Valentine’s Day Party at The Sportsman’s Club 11 Queens Road Aberdeen on February 11 from 7 pm to 12 am.
The cold night was warmed up by the lively and bubbly Emcee Jean D’Souza. There were over a hundred tickets sold and though there was a request for more tickets, the GCA was unable to accommodate more people due to limited space at The Sportsman’s Club.
The Goans attending the Valentine dance party were introduced to the GCA Standing Committee members comprising Sydon Fernandes (President), Maria (Dimple) Fernandes (Vice President), Ally Rodrigues (Treasurer), Laura Fernandes (Secretary), and Savil Da Silva (Youth Co-ordinator).
The brief introduction of the committee members was followed by a welcome speech by GCA President Sydon Fernandes. The Valentine's dance party was well attended by GCA members’ families and friends.
People danced to the foot-tapping music performed by the band ‘Octave’ comprising Nilesh (vocals/base guitar), Ally (lead guitar/vocals), Jose (keyboard) and Jeremy (Drums & DJ music), and Isabella (vocals). In the mood-stirring music, many Goan and Konkani songs were played in a nostalgic atmosphere, bringing memories of Valentine's Day dances held in Goa.
Besides the music, three-course dishes in Indian cuisine were catered by Shahbaaz Tandoori Indian Restaurant at Aberdeen.
This party was not just an event for adults, but it included plenty of fun-filled games for adults and children, as well as the Bingo and Cupid Contest. There were plenty of games all organised by Jean D’Souza.
“All had a good time including the bar staff at the Sportsman's Club who were not just busy serving but enjoying the music and fun of this event. The night ended with GCA Vice President Maria (Dimple) Fernandes's vote of thanks,” said GCA Secretary Laura Fernandes.
“We received positive feedback from all those who attended and thank them for their support and generosity. We at GCA are working towards keeping our traditions and culture alive through these events also creating the feel of a home atmosphere away from home for every Goan in Aberdeen. We look forward to more support and cooperation in future such events.”
