Goa's Festakar Marius Fernandes while planning the ‘Ekvottachem Fest’ (Festival of Togetherness) in Leicester.
LONDON
After having curated over 100 cultural festivals all across Goa, Marius Fernandes, popularly known as Goa's Festakar, will host an inclusive ‘Ekvottachem Fest’ (Festival of Togetherness) in Leicester-England to celebrate Goan heritage, inclusion, and unity.
The vibrant, community-powered festival, which will bring together people of all backgrounds in the spirit of Ekvott (togetherness), will be conducted at the St John Bosco Hall, Leicester, on August 23 from 6 pm to 10 pm. Entry is free and people are invited to attend the event.
This milestone festival marks Marius Fernandes' 102nd cultural fest and he continues his mission of using festivals as a tool for social inclusion, community dialogue, and cultural pride.
Known for breaking down barriers through joy, Marius is bringing his signature grassroots style to Leicester.
He is conducting a three-day workshop with like-minded Goan community leaders to promote and discover new talent in preparation for the Fest.
The 'Ekvottachem Fest' will feature workshops and discussions on Goan music, migration, identity, and intergenerational storytelling, 'Kottieacho Nach' (a traditional Goan coconut dance choreographed by Dr Gwendolyn de Ornelas), 'Ghumtacho Avaz' (a soulful journey through the sounds of the Ghumot, Goa’s ancient percussion instrument), 'Karyshala' (hands-on creative spaces for all ages), 'Festakarachi Pasoi' (a walk through the legacy of Marius’s 100+ fests), 'Goenchem Jevonn' (authentic Goan food experience), 'Fashion Show' (featuring Goan-inspired designs), 'Balcaoacho Gozalli' (a balcony-style conversations celebrating shared memories and hopes) and much more.
The festival will also feature the unveiling of the newly formed Leicester Sunshine Band – a diverse, multicultural ensemble created to celebrate unity through music. Their debut performance will serve as a powerful symbol of harmony, creativity, and hope.
“This is not just a festival,” says Marius Fernandes, “It’s a gathering of hearts. It’s about building bridges, celebrating roots, and creating joy together — no barriers, no tickets, no exclusion.
"In my true Festakar style, the event is free, inclusive, and community-led — no VIPs, no fences. Just people, culture, and connection."
