Agnelo Estrocio is the Conservative Party candidate for the Walcot & Park North Ward in the local Borough elections in Swindon on May 4.
Hailing from Caranzalem-Panaji, Agnelo said he decided to contest council elections for a second time because it gave him an opportunity to make a big difference in the quality of life in his area.
“This is the second time I am contesting elections as I lost the last time by a very small margin of barely 300 votes,” said Agnelo, a production operator with the company Thermo Fisher Scientific in Swindon.
PURPOSE
“People often ask me why I want to be a councillor. There are many reasons but one of the biggest is that no other role gives you the chance to make such a huge difference to the quality of life for people in your local area,” explained Agnelo.
“Today, I have proven that this is true. Some months ago, I approached the Cabinet Member with responsibility for parking regarding the problems experienced by the congregation at Holy Family Church, especially during major services such as Easter.”
“Today, along with my colleague, Parish Council Candidate Vilma Crasto and Norton Fernandes, we were pleased to announce free parking at Dorcan Recreation Ground for all churchgoers over the Easter weekend. We thank the Cabinet Member for agreeing to our request. It will take the stress out of trying to find somewhere to park and will mean less disruption for residents,” said Agnelo.
FOCUS
When asked to explain the priorities for his ward, Agnelo said his focus would be to work closely with Sir Robert Buckland, Member of Parliament in South Swindon, to ensure that residents are well represented on both local and national levels.
“Also, it has long been a priority of mine to reduce and prevent antisocial behaviour in Walcot & Park North. From conversations with residents, I know this is something they care about deeply too.”
“I will continue to work hard and constructively on this with our Police and Crime Commissioner, Philip Wilkinson OBE, as well as Wiltshire Police, local MP Sir Robert Buckland and colleagues on the Council,” said Agnelo.
He also assured to ensure that roads are safe in Swindon.
“Recently, the Conservative government announced over £600k in funding to fix potholes here in Swindon and our Conservative Council fills in thousands of potholes a year. I will work to secure a fair share of this funding and work for roads here in Walcot & Park North, and will continue reporting potholes where I see them.”
Keeping Walcot & Park North clean and tidy is also one of Agnelo’s aims.
“I have been incredibly active, along with the rest of the Walcot & Park North Conservative Ward team, both at reporting and cleaning up instances of fly-tipping, graffiti and littering across our Ward. Recent cleaning-up projects led by our Conservative Ward team have taken place in Carmel Walk and Chalvedon Green,” said Agnelo.
Highlighting areas where Conservatives have delivered for Swindon, Agnelo said efforts had been made on highways upgrades and new roads for Swindon (£170 million), making Swindon's streets safer, with additional police officers recruited (£1 million), improvements to our green spaces like Coate Water and Lydiard Park (over 50,000 trees planted), investment in Swindon's A&E (£26 million), investment in the new Institute of Technology for better education and skills for Swindon (£17 million) and investment in improvement to the town centre (£100 million).
