Former Siridao sarpanch and three-time panch Antonio Afonso was appointed Chairman of the Goa Unit of the Overseas Congress by AICC Goa incharge Dinesh Gundu Rao and Goa Pradesh Congress Committee President Girish Chodankar in the presence of senior AICC Election Observer P Chidambaram and Leader of Opposition at the party headquarters in Panaji on Tuesday. Antonio, who lived in the Cayman Islands, United States and United Kingdom in the early 2000s, said that his initial goal is to reconnect with the Goan community across the globe and work together for the betterment of Goa. “Our initial goal is to reconnect with all our Goan brothers and sisters around the world, many of whom are Congress supporters for decades. We also plan to open an office that will work round the clock. Come election time, we’ll have a well oiled team running the show that will work together for the betterment of Goa.” Antonio has also played an important role in the development of St Andre since his first innings as a panch in 1982.
