Anti-smoking awareness event at Panaji today

On the occasion of World No Tobacco Day (May 31), the medical wing of Prajapati Brahma Kumaris Ishwariya Vishwa Vidyalaya will organize a public awareness event at Panaji’s KTC bus stand on May 31 from 9-5 pm. The event will include an exhibition to highlight the ill effects of smoking and other forms of addiction. Methods for imbibing self-discipline and positive thinking through the posters will also be promoted, and counseling for those who wish to quit tobacco will be offered. The event will have health secretary Arun Mishra as chief guest along with Director General of Police (DGP), Dean of Goa Medical College Dr Shivanand Bandekar, Dr Shekhar Salkar of Manipal Hospital and director of Kadamba Transport Corporation.

'300-350 cancer cases linked to tobacco found in Goa'

PANAJI “Around 300 to 350 cases of tobacco related cancers are found in Goa which include oral cavity, tongue, larynx, lung and others which amounts to around 20 to 25% of total 1500 new cases of all types of cancer seen in Goa every year.
