Manohar Kerkar was on Wednesday elected unopposed as sarpanch of Arambol.
The post had fallen vacant following the resignation of Pratiksha Naik in a mutual agreement formed among other panchas.
Kerkar was the lone panch to file a nomination and he received the support from panchas Anant Gadekar, Inacio De Souza, Bernard Fernandes, Manisha Naik, Pratiksha Naik and Divya Waingankar. Seven of the nine panchas were present at the meeting.
Pernem BDO officer Krishna Gadekar presided over as election officer and he was assisted by panchayat secretary Dasharath Parab.
Later speaking to reporters, Kerkar said the Arambol panchayat has taken up many developmental projects and pledged to complete them with the support of MLA Dayanand Sopte.
The newly elected sarpanch was greeted by MLA Dayanand Sopte, GTDC Director Sudesh Sawant, Mandrem BJP Block President Madhu Parab and other panchas.
