Bloomers in Mapusa ODP

NGPDA has failed to notify changes suggested by the citizens group

Bloomers in Mapusa ODP

The citizens in Mapusa under the flagship of MapusaNagrikancho Ekvott have a reason to feel annoyed.

In spite of submitting several representations and placingobjections and suggestions on record on the draft outline development plan(ODP) of Mapusa, the North Goa Planning and Development Authority failed totake their say into account.

NGPDA has failed to notify changes suggested by the citizensgroup and incorporated changes without preparing land use Map in the final ODPof Mapusa.

“What is shocking is that important roads, religious places, green zones and schools are not shown in the plan. The number of commercialzones has drastically increased,” complained the convenor of MNE, AdvocateAntonio lobo.

The area behind the outpatient department of Asilo (oldbuilding) which was marked as green zone and thus was suggested to be kept asreserved space for parking was converted into commercial zone in the new ODP.

“Areas such asAlthinho, Feira Alta, Feira Baixa, Angod, Rajwaddo and Ansabhatt which havevarious heritage structures now come under commercial zone. This will tempt andencourage builders to eye the heritage structures to make a killing,” saidAdvocate Lobo.

He further said that the citizens group had identifieddiscrepancies in the ODP and brought it to the attention of the planners. Butwhat they have come out with after correction is worse than the earlier one,Lobo stressed.

Meanwhile the member secretary of NGPDA, Ashok Kumar saidthat they had received minor errors and would take it up for corrections onpriority.

However in case of major errors the same should be presentedbefore the government, he added.
