Porvorim MLA Rohan Khaunte said he was pained to see elderly people staying in aged homes instead of being with their children.
“These senior citizens are in the twilight of their lives and need love and affection. It is sad that the number of aged homes is increasing instead of decreasing in India,” said Khaunte, after donating foodgrains to the Fatima Old Aged Home for women at Guirim. “We must take care of our parents and our grandparents, because they need us at this age,” said Khaunte.
The Porvorim MLA said he had requested each member of Farmers Club at Guirim to donate 1 kg each of their agricultural produce to the Fatima Old Aged Home.
Sr Edith Dantas of Fatima Old Aged Home said inmates at the aged home require emotional, mental and physical care, besides love and affection. Assuring that the Fatima Old Aged Home takes good care of all the inmates, Sr Edith thanked Khaunte, panch members and the farmers for providing them foodgrains. On the occasion, Khaunte met each inmate at the home and enquired about their health and welfare.
