Cuncolim Municipal Council was the most pampered civic bodyin the State when Joaquim Alemao was the Urban Development Minister.
No wonder Cuncolim received a new auditorium, library, andcemented roads during Alemao’s reign. Many more proposals were also in thepipeline.
Joaquim was always accused of diverting all DMA fundstowards Cuncolim municipality and was blamed for ignoring other municipalities.But all that development couldn’t help the Varca strongman to get reelectedfrom Cuncolim.
Cuncolim Municipal Council, Chairperson Devendra Dessai isthe only chairperson in South Goa, who was not destabilized after the new MLA,Rajan Naik came to power.
“For the last six months after the new government came topower development has come to a standstill in Cuncolim. The MLA has not takenany interest in his own constituency and the municipal wards are suffering,”the chairperson said.
But councilor turned MLA, Rajan Naik disagrees. “Our UrbanDevelopment Minister, Francisco D’Souza has visited Cuncolim and took note ofwhat lacks in Cuncolim. Work on market renovation will be taken up shortly,”Naik said.
