MARGAO: Sao Jose de Areal SC pipped Goa Velha SC 1-0 to move to the quarterfinals of the 2nd Fr. Bruno Leitao Memorial Cup 2024, organised by Union of Chinchinim Villagers, Chinchinim Church ground, on Saturday.
Both the teams started with attacking intent but the respective team defenders were equal to their task to keep a clean sheet till the half time.
In the second half, Goa Velha Sports Club missed a close sitter in the 15th minute. In the 25th minute, Leo Gomendes converted a loose ball from the Goa Velha defender to make it 1-0 for Sao Jose de Areal SC. The defenders of Areal held on well to 1-0 till the final whistle.
Leo Gomendes was awarded the player of the match which was given by Jerson Gomes, Panch member Village Panchayat Chinchinim-Deussua.
