The Valpoi municipal council has worked round the problem ofinstability by giving everyone a chance to rule

It has therefore witnessed no toppling games in the last twoyears. The councilors have mutually agreed to rotate the chairperson’s postamongst them. As a result, the current chairperson Umesh Gulekar has steppeddown from the post.  If sources are to bebelieved Ramesh Shirodkar is expected to be the new chairperson.

Since the council was elected number of projects are beingworked out. Major works which has been initiated in the city includebeautification projects, a new bus stand, a 66-bedded hospital,  and a new administrative building

Work of overall city development is underway as council hasreceived funds worth Rs 3 crore from government.

“We have managed to initiate number of projects which willprovide better infrastructure to the residents of the city. Even a basicinfrastructure like garbage and sewerage treatment plants are in proposal whichwill be taken up by the council,” said Umesh Gulekar, former chairperson ofValpoi Muncipal Council.

Ramesh Shirodkar, aspiring chairperson said that the changein government has impacted development of Valpoi to certain extent. As a resultwork on Valpoi hospital has slowed down, he added.
