The Department of Geology of Dnyanprassarak Mandal’s College and Research Centre celebrated World Geologists’ Day with enthusiasm, zeal and fanfare. Speaking at the occasion as resource person on the topic ‘Marine Minerals’ Dr Sridhar Iyer, Retired Scientist, NIO- Goa asserted that as mineral resources over continent are limited, a need of finding more sources offshore is the need of the day. Kimberly Afonso welcomed the gathering and coordinated the session. The theme for Poster making competition was “Geology in day-to-day life”. Ashita Salgaonkar and Nikita Mestry of TYBSc won 1st place and 2nd and 3rd place was bagged by Rui D’Souza and Utkarsha Revodkar of FYBCA and Simran Khan and Shankar Lamani of TYBSc respectively. An unique and innovative competition of Pebble painting was also conducted. The theme for the same was “save environment”. Mamta Singh of SYBSc won 1st place. 2nd place was shared by Priyanka Sanar and Cayle Fernandes of FYBCA. Vrusha Naik of MSc Environmental Science won the 3rd place.
Students and faculty members of various teaching courses visited Geology Museum which hosts number of Rock, mineral and fossil specimen.
