‘Save Earth, Save Life’ Mime contest held

"We all have a moral obligation to make our planet a safer and healthier place to live for ourselves and future generations. The indiscriminate exploitation of earthly resources, on the other hand, has thrown the ecological balance off.  We must therefore keep in mind that our actions and activities have an impact on the entire earth. The earth is what keeps us alive; the quality of our existence is determined by it,” stated Goan poet and lyricist John Aguiar, adding, “Mime he said is extremely significant in the modern-day art of drama and it helps in bringing out the talent of expression." Aguiar was speaking at the Inter School Mime competition organised by St Bartholomew's High School on the theme ‘Save Earth, Save Life’ at Chorao on Saturday.

In the competition Our Lady of Grace High School Bicholim, Our Lady of Divar High School, Divar and Mae de Deus High School Corjuvem bagged the first, second and third prizes respectively. The consolation prizes were given to Our Lady of Merces High School, Merces, St Bartholomew's High School Divar, Dayanand High School, Chorao, Bal Bharati Vidya Mandir, Ribandar and St Thomas Boys HS/St Thomas Girls High School, Aldona. In all 10 schools had participated in the Mime contest. The judges of the competition were theatre artistes Ceaser D'Mello and Augie D'Mello. Manager of the school Fr Americo Rodrigues welcomed while headmistress of the School Manisha Mendonca proposed a vote of thanks. Teachers, Deborah Futardo and Nilima Pingulkar introduced the chief guest and the judges. An educational film on traffic awareness by Cavin D'Mello and written by Ceaser D'Mello was screened for the students.
