Efforts for over 10 years to develop the Ganesh Visarjan (immersion) site at Parvem-Agonda finally yielded the desired results when Agonda panchayat on Friday began work to construct a platform and steps at the site.
The work was launched by Speaker Ramesh Tawadkar in the presence of Agonda Sarpanch and local panch Prettal Fernandes.
The Ganapati Visarjan platform and steps will be constructed at a cost of Rs 4.9 lakh at the traditional Ganesh immersion site near Dhavalkhazan (old Borim bridge) at the Agonda river at Parvem Ward.
Ward members, including ex-panch Agnelo Fernandes, who had been pursuing the development of the Visargan site since a decade ago following demands of the Hindu community in the ward, were present on the occasion.
Later speaking to reporters, Sarpanch Prettal Fernandes stating the local body is prepared for the monsoons and said the panchayat has cleaned roadside gutters and drainages, leaving little or no scope for flooding of roads in the village.
