Stating that the government approved 14 temple committees in Canacona taluka will have their elections on March 13, Manoj Korgaonkar, mamlatdar of Canacona has explained that since the elections fall in the middle of annual rituals, the date should be postponed from March 13 to March 20. As the Shimgotsava in Canacona is beginning on March 9, the temple committees of Khotigaon, Gaondongari and Shristhal’s Shree Mallikarjun Devasthan have appealed to postpone the March 13 elections. The appeal has been forwarded to the government and the government is yet to take any decision in this regard, said the mamlatdar. It is to be noted that Shristhal’s Shree Mallikarjun Devasthan’s avatar purush’s avatar and other rituals will begin on March 9. There is holi on March 17 and annual jatrotsava on March 23. All the mahajans of Shree Mallikarjun temple are involved in these festivities, so the elections should be held on March 20 instead of March 13, stated Rajendra Desai in a written appeal on behalf of the temple committee.
