OLD GOA
Seeking action against the construction of a wall at the Bambolim beach, advocate Suresh Palkar of Goenkars Against Marina has petitioned the Curca-Bambolim panchayat to act in the matter and stop the work.
The petition was filed by Adv Palkar on Wednesday and a copy of the same has been addressed to the GCZMA member secretary and TCP’s deputy town planner.
In his petition, Palkar alleged that the mandatory site inspection was not conducted before granting permissions,
He has also raised objections to the construction material being used as he said that such material is not allowed to be used in CRZ areas.
“The height of the wall is also increased to such an extent that public access to the beach would be blocked,” Palkar states.
He has further opined that the construction of the wall abutting the river bank cannot be allowed without the permission of the Water Resources Department since the river bank is a public property and not a private one.
Citing more violations, Palkar has urged the Curca panchayat to immediately issue stop-work order cum show-cause notice asking why the NOC issued by the panchayat should not be revoked.
He has further demanded that a site inspection be done in the presence of affected fishermen and locals.
It may be recalled that activists and locals had gathered at the construction site of the Bambolim beach wall on Monday, to voice their opposition to the same as they claimed that there was encroachment of the beach area.
