Goa Police busted two separate IPL betting modules operating in Porvorim during the same match between Lucknow Super Giants and Mumbai Indians on Friday night. The twin operations, carried out by the Crime Branch and Porvorim police within a span of two hours, led to the arrest of five persons and seizure of betting equipment and gadgets worth Rs 2.6 lakh approx. In the first case, the Crime Branch arrested three Telangana natives from an apartment in Alto Porvorim. The accused identified as Tigulla Shrinivas (39), Gaddala Kiran Kumar (37), and Annathapuram Shravankumar (36) were caught red-handed accepting online bets during the IPL fixture. The raid, conducted between 8:45 pm and 10:50 pm, resulted in the seizure of three mobile phones, a laptop, and other gaming accessories valued at Rs 1.8 lakh approx. Shortly after, at around 10:45 pm, Porvorim police swooped down on another betting den operating in Socorro. Two Gujarat natives namely Gor Jigneshkumar Ashwinbhai (46) and Zala Kishankumar Jayantibhai (29) were arrested for allegedly accepting online bets on the same IPL match. Two mobile phones, a laptop, and other accessories worth about Rs 80,000 were seized during the raid.
