Former minister seeks HC inspection of buildings in Cortalim area

MARGAO

Claiming that a number of buildings have come up at Consua area of Cortalim village, former Minister Mickky Pacheco on Thursday made a fervent plea to the High Court to inspect the area on the lines of the inspection of the Smart City works in Panjim. Addressing the media, Mickky said inspection of the area by the High Court is needed since around 40 buildings have come up at the site when the zone was orchard having a gradient of 200 metres. He demanded to know the stand of Cortalim MLA Anton Vaz on the issue saying that mere writing letters to the government is not enough to protect the hills and environment from destruction. “In the event of a Wayanad-type disaster at Consua-Cortalim, not only these 40 buildings will come crashing down, but the lives and property of the occupants will be at stake”, he said. Saying that hill cutting and other violations have increased in recent months, the former minister warned he would be forced to stage a rasta roko agitation if the ongoing illegal activities of hill cutting does not stop immediately.
