MARGAO: Loyola HS Margao and The Kings School Sao Jose De Areal entered the semi-finals of the All Goa inter-school U-14 football tournament, organised by United Sports Club of Seraulim in memory of Sir Jawaharlal Da Costa, at Seraulim panchayat ground.
In the boys category, Loyola High school edged past The Kings School, Sao Jose De Areal 3-2. It was in the eighth minute of the first half that The Kings took the lead through Trishan Gomes when his power-packed shot entered the net. It was then Loyola High School taking over and mounting pressure however at two occasions. The Kings goalkeeper Farhan came to his teams' rescue when he smartly intercepted and punched the ball to safety and the second time when he saved on a one-to-one situation.
The second half, Loyola HS managed to find what they wanted best was the equaliser through Joseph De Costa to level the score in the 35th minute . Thereafter, it was Loyola HS putting pressure and two quick goals from Reuben Barbosa in the 45th and 47th minute sealed the fate of The Kings School. The Kings School scored a consolation goal through Elrad Braganza just a few minutes before the final whistle.
In the girls category, The Kings School defeated Fatima Convent High School 2-1. Karen D'Souza and Manashvi Sambhji scored for The Kings and Shalaika Rodrigues reduced the margin for Fatima.
Player of the Match was awarded to Reuben Barbosa from Loyola High school in the boys category and to Analee D'Costa from The Kings School in the girls category.
