Police arrests 1 in Verla businessman assault case

After almost a fortnight, Anjuna Police arrested one of the accused in connection with the brutal assault on a Verla-based businessman and two of his associates.A Mapusa court has remanded him to five day in police custody.It may be recalled, the Verla-based businessman Roy Fernandes and two of his associates were assaulted by a gang of five persons for allegedly exposing a hill cutting incident.

Fernandes had suffered head injuries while the other two of his associates had also suffered serious injuries. Fernandes and one of his men were admitted in a private hospital while his third associate was treated for fracture in Goa Medical College and Hospital.Based on the complaint of Fernandes, Anjuna Police had booked the main accused Rohan Harmalkar and five others for the assault.

Meanwhile, Fernandes has approached the Sessions Court with the plea that Section 307 (attempt to murder) of the IPC be added against all the accused.Fernandes has also pleaded that the accused, who has been arrested, should not be released until the weapons used in the assault are recovered and the other accused are also arrested. The matter is expected to come for hearing on Thursday.

PANAJI:Five students from Aakash Institute secure ranks in Top 10 in Goa in the National Talent Search Examination (NTSE) Stage-I with Mahika Harmalkar and Parth Bhate securing second and third position respectively.
