‘BJP must introspect why a community feels insecure’

Calling upon the BJP-led central government to introspect why a particular community felt unsafe and insecure during their rule prompting their religious leaders to seek prayers for the nation, GPCC President Girish Chodankar slammed the BJP-led government in the state for failing to control fuel prices in Goa.
Speaking to reporters along the sidelines of the “Jana Gana Mana, Nomon Tuka Goemkara” tour in Vasco on Wednesday, Chodankar said the letter by a religious leader had appealed for prayers for the country.
“I don’t see any reason why BJP or any religious outfit should criticise the letter. When a Catholic leader says pray for the nation, they feel it is wrong. The BJP should actually introspect why people are feeling this way after BJP has been in power for the last four years or why a section of a particular community is feeling insecure and unsafe.”
“I would have condemned the letter if they had to criticise a particular community but the letter says pray for the nation and the government of the day has to ponder on why a certain community feels unsafe,” said Chodankar.
Turning his attention to the rising fuel prices, Chodankar recalled Parrikar promising Goans that his government would freeze petrol prices to Rs 60 per litre no matter what happened in the country.
“He had also promised to freeze gas cylinder prices but they have forgotten their promises. There is no control with fuel prices shooting up and Goa government introducing VAT which they had planned to abolish.”
“When the price of crude oil started falling, it was the PM who took the credit. When the Congress was in the government, it mantained a stable price despite sky rocketing prices of crude oil. But this government is not passing on the benefits of decreasing crude oil to the citizens and we will strongly protest against the rising fuel prices in the country,” Chodankar added.
GPCC President Girish Chodankar said the Congress party would soon submit a memorandum to the North Goa Collector, expressing their concerns in the matter.
