Union Minister for Ayush, Shripad Naik has expressed his desire to make Ayurveda Day an International Day just like yoga. "The All India Institute of Ayurveda at Delhi will be inaugurated on October 17," he said while speaking at a function organised by Arogya Bharati-Goa to mark National Ayurveda Day.
Speaker Pramod Sawant, Arogya Bharati (Goa Branch) president Pandurang Ghate, secretary Pritesh Desai, Dr Yogesh Bendalle, Dr Deepak Dhume and others were present on the occasion.
Dr Shyam Bhandare, Dr Vaman Keshav Allavanni, Dr Sangeeta Patki, Sandesh Barajankar and Ram Gaonkar were conferred with Dhanvantari awards.
"Many tried to suppress the practice of yoga, but they didn't succeed. Ayurveda can give us best health and it should benefit the world. Let us make ayurveda day a world day like yoga. For this, we will have to create awareness of ayurveda in India," Naik said.
Thanking PM Narendra Modi for focusing on ayurveda, he said, "There should be maximum patents in Ayurveda. This will force the world to accept it."
Speaker Pramod Sawant, however, lamented that though there are 200-odd bogus doctors practicing ayurveda, the bureaucrats are not taking action against them.
According to Sawant, six years back a ‘cell' was formed to take action against these bogus doctors, but the cell failed to act.
"In Goa, both ayurveda and homoeopathy are placed under the Goa Indian System of Medicine and Homoeopathy Council Act, 2001. We need to make separate acts. In the next assembly session, I will request the state government to make these legislations separate," he said.
Sawant said, "We need to promote ayurveda. There is a ready market for us in Goa, as seven lakh tourists visit the state. We need to reach out to them," added Sawant.
