PM Narendra Modi inquired about the effects of the latest Supreme Court’s order on mining in Goa, Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar informed.
The CM, who was speaking highly of the PM during the foundation stone laying ceremony for a new super speciality block at GMC, said the PM is also concerned about Goa’s ‘Open Defecation Free’ status.
“After the mining judgement, he (Modi) was not in India. I got a call from his office, asking about the economic impact and I was asked to prepare a report and if need be meet (PM),” Parrikar said, adding that the PM would in all likelihood call his office and ask him about Goa’s open defecation free status.
“On one hand he (the PM) was delivering a speech in Abu Dhabi. But his feet are on the ground. Because as he is doing this, we will get a phone call about Goa’s ODF status…,” Parrikar said claiming he has seen the PM’s ‘vision’ first hand.
“On the one hand he is a world leader and on the other, he also worries about ODF. I will get calls from his office, or he will write a letter or speak to me and enquire about Swachh Bharat,” Parrikar said adding that it was a matter of shame that 60,000-70,000 families in Goa still do not have toilets.
“We are lucky. He has a soft corner for Goa, so whenever I have taken a project proposal from Goa, he has never said no. May be he thinks of Goa as lucky or maybe for some other reasons. We should take advantage of that,” Parrikar said.
