35 new Covid cases, 94 more vaccinated

Goa has recorded 35 new cases of Covid in the last 24 hours. Coupled with 60 recoveries, the active case count of the state has dropped to 411 on Sunday.

The state’s daily positivity rate stood at ­­­­­­­­1.6 per cent with 2,119 samples tested. No deaths related to Covid were recorded on Saturday.

The Health Department vaccinated 94 more persons on Saturday. Despite the low rate of vaccination this week, the state is slowly inching towards cent per cent double vaccination in keeping with Chief Minister Pramod Sawant’s plea for people to keep their date with the vaccination centres.

Meanwhile, the Directorate of Health Services is expected to receive by Friday the test reports of samples drawn from three Covid positive UK passengers. These passengers had tested positive for Covid-19 after alighting from flight AI 146 which arrived from the UK on December 10 with 237 passengers. They have been isolated at PHC Cansaulim.

The fifth crew member, who was symptomatic, was also isolated at PHC Cansaulim after he was taken off oxygen. A total of 84 high-risk contacts of these foreign nationals have been identified by the Directorate of Health Services have been placed on 14 days home quarantine with retesting advised on the eighth day.
