The names of criminals who are dead might not be in the list of history-sheeters but for some others, who were booked way back in the late 90s and even 2000s, police have chosen to keep their files active. “Those persons could have fallen silent but are not forgotten,” an officer said.
Of 15 history-sheeters in Panaji, four are dormant as they claim to be either in the real estate business or employed in private service whereas Anjuna has two ‘inactive’ criminals.
However, one of these accused, Shoaib Mustikin Khan alias Ajay Sharma, last booked in 2004 has evaded the police. He is on the list of “absconding” accused and two others have also gone into hiding.
Ashpak Bhengre and Tiger Anwar, among those who were killed by their rivals, are omitted from the list. Imran Bepari, Ricky Hornekar, Valley D’Costa, Vipul Pattari and a few more who were charged with attempting to kill Tiger at Arlem, Fatorda have found themselves in the history-sheeters list. Tiger, having 26 cases, had survived the bid on his life as his rival gang members fired shots at him and assaulted him with deadly weapons but was hacked to death by four axe-wielding assailants in his native village in 2021.
