PANAJI
The Corporation of the City of Panaji (CCP) has decided to introduce a Smart Aeration System (SAS) to treat biodegradable waste, in a bid to minimise odour generated during decomposing and to enable quicker decomposition of wet garbage.
The CCP on Friday invited tenders from an agency to provide the SAS for the treatment of biodegradable waste.
"Basically, the SAS is to facilitate quick decomposition of the wet waste so that foul smell during decomposition is avoided,” said CCP Deputy Mayor Vasant Agashikar, while speaking about the SAS.
He said the CCP has small wet waste decomposing units at various locations like CCP market area, near Heera petrol pump, etc.
CPP has set up the task to build composting units around the city, including some housing societies. Vermicomposting and aerobic composting stations have been set up and maintained by CPP.
The CCP has around 34 composting units and has plans to increase the number of composting units.
Meanwhile, the CCP has also decided to reconstitute the street vending committee, which will decide the locations for the street vendors to do their business.
