PANAJI: Law Minister Aleixo Sequeira has drawn attention to a worrying trend of the rise in legal fees, claiming it has made such services unaffordable for many.
Speaking at an event held in Panaji, he urged law students and budding lawyers not to prioritize money over principles and to also refrain from compromising their integrity for monetary gain.
“Many citizens are unable to afford the fees of lawyers. Therefore, I believe that aspiring lawyers, students and those just beginning their careers, should not prioritize money above all else. Firstly, consider the needs of the less fortunate, the common people; and secondly, don’t sell your souls. I have witnessed instances where lawyers (from opposing sides) collaborate, in which the sufferers are their clients,” he stated.
