SANGUEM
Aggrieved farmers from Sanguem, who could not conduct their meeting on Sunday to discuss the IIT project at Sanguem after pro-IIT supporters disrupted the meeting, are scheduled to petition Chief Minister Pramod Sawant, leader of opposition and all MLAs on Tuesday. The farmers have alleged that due to political interference, the police were not present at the venue before the meeting could begin despite that the meeting would be disrupted.
The police appeared at the venue only after the pro-IIT supporters barged into the meeting hall and created a ruckus, stopping the organisers from conducting the meeting.
The farmers are also scheduled to bring to the notice of the chief minister of dangers that lie to democracy in the State, and Sanguem constituency in particular, if the situation continued to take place like the way it happened, which was for the first time in the history of Sanguem.
They claimed that the issue is also likely to be raised in the assembly as the ruckus caused by the pro-IIT supporters was a very cowardly act caused to silence the opposition.
