OLD GOA
A fire broke out in the hillside cashew plantations at Corpir-Azossim on Friday afternoon in which a few cashew and other trees, firewood and bamboos were gutted.
According to the Old Goa fire station, they received a call at around 3 pm of the fire after which they initiated a firefighting exercise under the supervision of firefighter Sunil Jalmi. The firefighters used water to douse the fire in the areas where the hose could reach. In the other areas, the firefighters doused the fire, along with the locals, with the help of branches.
Workers at the cashew farm in a church property also tried to cut out the fire while the fire personnel doused it. It later spread to another adjoining property but was brought under control. It is suspected that a short circuit, triggered by a part of a tree touching the electricity wire, caused the fire.
