The Mapusa Municipal Council (MMC) has ordered demolition of an illegal scrapyard along with an illegal construction inside it at Karaswada, Mapusa.
Issuing the final demolition notice, MMC Chief Officer Amitesh Shirvoikar said the construction work was carried out without obtaining prior permission from the council as required under the Goa Municipalities Act, 1968.
He further said that the owner failed to submit any documents supporting the legality of the construction and his reply to the show-cause notice issued by the council was found to be unsatisfactory.
“The construction is unauthorised and illegal and against the provisions of the The Goa Municipalities Act 1968 and bye laws. You are therefore directed to remove/demolish the illegal construction along with the scrapyard material within 15 days failing which the council shall demolish the same and the cost incurred will be recovered from you,” Shirvoikar said in his order.
It may be recalled, the Mapusa civic body in September last year had conducted a site inspection after receiving a complaint from St Andre MLA Viresh Borkar and found that an illegal scrapyard was being operated behind the Bandekar petrol pump at Karaswada, Mapusa.
The civic officials found that the shed of the illegal scrapyard was built on an area of 1,800 sq mt and it was being operated by three persons. Besides, there were two houses and the illegal scrapyard was connected to these houses.
The civic officials also found that another illegal RCC structure was constructed on the back side of the house comprising of ground plus two floors and the illegal shed was being used to conduct the business of scrapyard.
The chief officer had then issued a show-cause notice to the owners of the scrapyard under the Section 184 (2) of the Goa Municipalities Act as to why the said illegal structure/s should not be demolished.
