MGP MLAs Sudin Dhavalikar and Jeet Arolkar on Monday met BJP national leaders and extended their support to the government to be led by Chief Minister Pramod Sawant.
MGP had earlier given its unconditional support to the BJP, justifying its decision in the interest of the stability and development of the State.
Prior to the assembly elections, MGP had a coalition with the TMC and while MGP contested on 8 seats, the remaining seats were contested by the TMC. However, only two MGP candidates got elected in their respective constituencies.
After the results, BJP emerged as the single largest party and MGP decided to give unconditional support to the BJP.
But with BJP securing a comfortable majority with the support of three independent MLAs, BJP MLAs, especially from Ponda taluka, had been opposed to the entry of Sudin Dhavalikar.
However, it was unclear if the MGP MLAs would get a cabinet berth and Dhavalikar did not comment on whether he was assured a ministry or not.
"I am here to meet BJP national leaders,” said Dhavalikar, while speaking to reporters.
After the meeting, Dhavalikar came along with BJP MLAs to support Chief Minister Pramod Sawant and to stake claim to form the next government along with three independent MLAs.
