Buying properties in Goa is not child’s play and a resident of Uttarakhand has found this reality the hard way.

A couple from Siolim have been booked for allegedly cheating a man of Rs 1 crore on the pretext of selling properties in the State.

Police informed that the accused husband-wife duo allegedly lured the complainant Purushottom Agarwal from Dehrudun, Uttarakhand to cough up Rs 1 crore with a promise to sell two properties in Bardez.

The accused also managed to sign an agreement with the complainant on the sale of the property.

When the accused duo failed to honour their promise, the complainant demanded a refund of his money.

According to police, the accused then fraudulently issued a cheque in favour of the complainant in spite of knowing that there was no sufficient balance in the account.

The cheque bounced due to insufficient amount in the bank account.

Mapusa police registered an offence under Section 406,420 read with 34 of the Indian Penal Code against the alleged accused, Reggie Fernandes @ Reggie Hipolito Leo Fernandes and his wife Juliana Dias of Siolim.

Mapusa police are investigating further.
