Cites Parishad Chief Guest Prof Devy's observations

Global Konknni Forum president Kennedy Afonso on Wednesday said that the president of just concluded 33rd All India Konkani Parishad Fr Mousinho Ataide must learn a few lessons from Prof Ganesh Devy, who was invited by the Konkani Parishad as a Chief guest.
In a statement, Kennedy said that Devy’s interview clearly shows that Devanagari is not the natural script of Konkani language.
Terming Devy’s interview as a path breaking, Kennedy pointed out that Devy has clearly observed that “script is accidental to a language. There is nothing like natural script, unless a script is specifically constructed for a language”.
He added: “Devy has cited examples of how languages with multiple scripts have also flourished world over. Spanish, English and Hindi which are most known global languages don't have their own scripts. He busts all myths of the Aryan-Sanskrit-Nagari civilisation”.
Demanding to know whether the Devanagari lobby (whose guest he was) will take Devy seriously, Kennedy said there is no natural script of Konkani, while demanding that Athaide stop fooling Goans on the issue.
“Ganesh Devy has cited examples of how languages with multiple scripts have flourished the world over. That's why the Sahitya Akademi must abolish " their one language, one script policy as it will destroy Konknni language, which is already on the endangered species list. The AIKP policy to kill all scripts slowly, so that Nagri may survive will spell doom for Konknni language.
He said GKF hope that the AIKP will at least learn from their own guest speaker and learn to respect and embrace all scripts of Konknni language.
