Archbishop of Goa and Daman Cardinal Filipe Neri Ferrão has requested the Pastoral Clergy and Superiors of Religious Communities in the Archdiocese to mark June 28 as a ‘Day of Prayer’ for the nation.
In a Circular Letter to the clergy, religious and lay faithful in the Archdiocese, Cardinal Ferrão referred to the circular by Cardinal Anthony Poola, President of the Catholic Bishops’ Conference of India, requesting that June 28, be observed as a ‘National Day of Prayer’ for the country, particularly in view of a certain legislation – the FCRA Amendment Bill 2026 – which is expected to be considered during the forthcoming Monsoon Session of the Parliament.
Cardinal Ferrão stated that the FCRA Amendment Bill 2026 has raised concerns regarding its possible negative impact on the charitable, educational, healthcare and social ministries carried out by the Catholic Church in India and called for prayers particularly for those entrusted with public responsibility, and for the freedom of the Church to carry out her mission of service to society and nation-building.
