1 nation, 1 election good concept, but not easy to implement: Minister

VASCO
Urban Development Minister Milind Naik on Thursday said the "One Nation, One election" was a good concept but was not easy to implement because people could oppose the move.

Naik was speaking to reporters along the sidelines of a function to launch road repair work between Mormugao Port Trust (MPT) Guesthouse and MPT Hospital in the presence of MPT Deputy Chairman G P Rai, MPT Union leaders and some residents.

"The ‘One Nation, One Election’ is a great concept by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and I cannot comment on how the concept can be implemented in a big country like India.”

“But the moment such plans are attempted to put in force, there will be opposition to the idea," said Naik.

Naik also appealed to people not to oppose development works in his Mormugao constituency.

"People must not oppose development and there should be no political view or a political angle for development works. A lot of development has taken place in the constituency and there are many works to be taken up as I am not satisfied with the present development works.”

Commenting on the road repair work between Mormugao Port Trust (MPT) Guesthouse and MPT Hospital, the minister said this work had been a demand from locals and Customs employees.

“The MPT management and union helped us get permission. The work will be undertaken through the GSUDA and while potholes will first be covered within the next 10 days, the work on all internal and main road will be taken in the second phase," said Naik.
