In a major setback for the Goa Congress ahead of the 2027 Assembly elections, 108 Booth Level Agents (BLAs) resigned from their posts across the State. The resignations came just hours before AICC national president Mallikarjun Kharge arrived in Goa and interacted with BLAs on Monday.
The mass resignations have highlighted growing discontent among grassroots Congress workers over the functioning of the party’s State unit and the alleged lack of consultation with booth-level workers.
A resignation communication submitted to the Chief Electoral Officer stated that the BLA-2 forms of 108 agents from different booths across Goa were being submitted to the election authorities.
The development came just hours before Kharge interacted with Congress BLAs as part of the party’s preparations for the 2027 Assembly elections.
Congress workers from Valpoi claimed that 10 BLAs from the constituency had resigned, while clarifying that they had not quit the party.
“We have not resigned from the party. We are loyal workers, but we are very disappointed with the way things are going. The people working here are not respected,” said Congress functionary Ashley Pinho from Valpoi.
The worker alleged that grassroots workers were not being taken into confidence on party decisions and claimed they were neither informed about Kharge’s visit to Goa nor invited to the meeting.
“This Congress is headless. We have no idea who is heading it,” the functionary alleged, adding that there was no Congress leader willing to take charge of Valpoi.
The worker also alleged that GPCC president Girish Chodankar had never held a meeting with BLAs in Valpoi.
The mass resignations are likely to put the State Congress leadership on the defensive as the party seeks to strengthen its booth-level machinery ahead of the 2027 Assembly elections.
