In all 13 candidates were declared elected unopposed and a record 995 candidates remained in the fray for the election of 33 panchayats in Bardez, as the nomination process ended with the withdrawal of nominations on Wednesday.
In three panchayats “ Siolim-Marna, Anjuna-Caisua and Nerul “ there will be a multi-cornered contest with more than two candidates in fray.
The highest number of candidates numbering to 11 is in ward 2 which is reserved for women in Siolim-Marna village panchayat.
Penha-de-Franca panchayat will witness one-to-one contest in maximum seven wards (wards 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 10 and 11) followed by Camurlim where six wards (wards 1, 2, 3, 5, 6 and & &) will see one-to-one fight.
The highest number of candidates in the fray numbering to 57 is in Anjuna-Caisua panchayat while the least number of candidates to contest is in five-member Nadora panchayat.
Incidentally, in three wards the candidates of Nadora panchayat have been elected unopposed leaving a contest in only two wards “ ward 1 and 2.
The following six candidates of Reis Magos panchayat were declared elected unopposed “ Xavier Rebeiro (ward 1), Umesh Mayenkar (ward 3), Subhash Pednekar (ward 4), Rajan Parulekar (ward 6), Sangeeta Bhosle (ward 9) and Naina Naik (ward 10) while three candidates of Nadora panchayat “ Paresh Gawas (ward 3), Madhura Mandrekar (ward 4) and Rama Nadodkar (ward 5) were also elected unopposed.
Similarly, Sandeep Salgaonkar (ward 2) and Reena Fernandes (ward 3) of Salvador-do-Mundo panchayat and Siddhesh Naik (ward 8) of Penha-de-Franca panchayat were declared elected unopposed.
In Bastora panchayat, Angela Martins (ward 5) mother of former sarpanch Savio Martins was declared elected unopposed.
