Saligao MLA Kedar Naik has stated that his mother and four other members from his panel have been elected unopposed in the Reis Magos panchayat.

Addressing a news conference, Naik said the five panch members elected unopposed are

Xavier Rebeiro (Ward 1), Umesh Mayekar (Ward 3), Subhash Pednekar (Ward 4), Sangeeta Bhonsale (Ward 9) and Naina Naik (Ward 10).

“This is the reward that people have given me for the development work I have undertaken in Reis Magos panchayat during my tenure as sarpanch,” said Naik.

“I am proud to announce in advance that Sushmita Pednekar, a candidate of my panel and who is contesting from Ward 2, will get elected with a thumping majority and will become sarpanch of Reis Magos Panchayat.”

“I am glad that my mother, Naina, has been elected unopposed. She is also interested in social work. My parents were freedom fighters and were involved in social work,” said Naik.

The MLA was confident that his panels would get elected in the other five panchayats of Nerul, Pilerne-Marra, Saligao, Sangolda and Guirim in Saligao constituency.

“My panel will carry out development works as per the desire of the people and provide transparent and efficient administration to the people,” said Naik.

Naina Naik said she got elected unopposed mainly because of his son and MLA, Kedar Naik.

“I have an interest in social work and I will now be able to fulfil my desire by providing service to residents of my ward as panch member,” she said.

Subhash Pednekar, Xavier Rebeiro, Ulhas Mayekar and Sangeeta Bhonsale also spoke at the news conference.
