CANACONA
As many as 13,858 people have received their Covid vaccination in Canacona, with 79% of people in the 45-plus age group receiving their jabs since the vaccination drive began in the taluka.
The second round of the ‘Tika Utsav’ campaign ended on Thursday, with 215 receiving the vaccine in Canacona municipality.
When contacted, Canacona Community Health Centre Health Officer Dr Jose Tavares informed that 79% of the 45-plus age group have been vaccinated in Canacona so far.
In addition to regular vaccination centres, 1,347 people were vaccinated in special drives conducted by health team in coordination with Deputy Speaker and Canacona MLA Isidore Fernandes, deputy collector and mamlatdar of Canacona at 21 places all over Canacona.
The vaccination drive for those in the special categories will continue at the Mallikarjun High school Char-Rasta and Government Higher secondary School, Mastimoll, till June 10.
Meanwhile, 15 new Covid cases were detected on Friday, but with a number of recoveries, the active cases have dropped to 175 in the taluka and most of them are under home isolation in Canacona taluka.
So far, 2,943 people have tested positive and 2,736 of them have recovered, while 32 deaths have taken place from Covid-related complications.
