PONDA: As many as 242 people, including women and children, associated with Patanjali Yuva Bharat performed a staggering 1.65 lakh Surya Namaskar asanas in ten-and-half hours, earning a record in the Asia Book of Records (ABR).
The record-breaking event took place at the Kalyan Mandap in Keri-Ponda and was monitored by ABR South India head Dr Franklin Herbert Das.
The event was inaugurated by Dilip Dhavalikar, president of Madhavrao Dhavalikar Charitable Trust. Arun Desai was also present on the occasion.
The Patanjali Yuva Bharat in association with Madhavrao Dhavalikar Charitable Trust had conceptualised the event and Dr Das appreciated the efforts, while announcing that it was a record for the ABR.
The Surya Namaskar performance was conducted in three categories. In the open category, 87 persons practicing yoga performed 1,000 Surya Namaskar in four hours. In the group for women and children, 154 persons performed 500 Surya Namaskar in two hours, while in the individual category, sexagenarian Ratnakar Rao performed 1,000 Surya Namaskar in four and half hours.
“All care and measures were taken to record this event. This record has been performed successfully and we have provided them with certificates. It was amazing to see children and others were performing the Surya Namaskar asanas continuously. I would call it as great event,” Dr Das told The Goan.
Speaking to The Goan, Ratnakar Rao said he was excited to record his name in the Asia Book of Record. "I really feel happy after performing 1,000 Surya Namaskars. This is my first record,” said Rsao.
Kamlesh Bandekar, Dinesh Naik, Sandesh Barajankar, Nitin Mardolkar, and Girish Kolwekar of Patanjali were present on the occasion.
