On March 24, the police acting on the complaint of CO Deepali Naik and MMC chairperson Deepak Naik had registered an offence against Salkar and his supporters under Sections 143, 147, 448, 504, 509, 352, 506, 353 r/w 149 of IPC.
The police after recording the statements of chief officer, chairperson and other council staff on Friday arrested the 19 accused, including Salkar and Borkar, who were identified by Deepali and Deepak while recording their statements.
However, Salkar, Borkar and other 17 accused moved for bail at JMFC Court Vasco, and after hearing the case, the judge pronounced conditional bail to all the 19 accused.
The court directed the police to release Salkar, Borkar and other 17 accused upon furnishing a personal bond of Rs 10,000 along with one or two sureties of the like amount to the satisfaction of the investigating officer.
The court further directed the 19 accused not to pressurise, contact prosecution witnesses or tamper with prosecution evidence directly or otherwise.
All the accused were also asked to report to the police station as and when directed by the investigating officer for questioning and co-operate in the probe, and they shall appear before the court as and when directed. The accused shall not leave the country till the conclusion of the trial without prior permission of the court.
It may be recalled that on March 24, Salkar along with a mob entered the chief officer’s office and allegedly abused and obstructed her for carrying out her lawful duty over removal of a controversial handcart at Mangor Hill, Vasco.
