At the gram sabha meeting chaired by sarpanch Melvyn Sanches, members expressed concerned over the inordinate delay by the Fisheries Director to submit a revised plan of the 50-unit toilet block at the jetty. They pointed out that while the Fisheries Directorate is going slow on the sanitation amenities despite a joint inspection carried out last year, the department is going ahead with the jetty expansion project. It was resolved that the Fisheries department should immediately take up the work on the toilet construction project or stop the jetty expansion project till the sanitation amenities are put in place at the jetty.
The meeting also approved the budget estimates pegged at `1.68 crore for the financial year 2017-18. The sarpanch informed that around `77 lakh worth development works are currently in progress in the village, including the bus stand, toilet blocks, etc.
The gram sabha resolved to issue demand notices to all the tax defaulters pertaining to house tax, trade licence and commercial tax, further resolving to revoke the trade licence of establishments which have defaulted in clearing the taxes.
The meeting took cognizance of the midnight attempt made by a cellular company to install a mobile tower at Zaino-Velim without the mandatory panchayat permission. Since the company had attempted to install the tower at the dead of night, only to be foiled by alert villagers, the gram sabha has told the panchayat to lodge a FIR against the
company concerned.
